Summary

  • Pros: The Floor Pod Plus has more modelers and effects than ever.
  • Cons: If you want better sounds, consider upgrading to the XT Live.
  • Overall: The Line 6 Floor Pod Plus wipes the floor (if you’ll excuse the pun) with the original Floor Pod.

Full Review

Line 6’s POD was a revolution when it came to multiFX, so it’s no surprise it became so successful. The downside was you needed to buy a separate foot controller if you needed to change patches on-the-fly. So, it made complete sense for the manufacturer to bring out a floorboard version. Being one of the company’s early forays into footboard territory, it wasn’t without its drawbacks. As a result, a new improved version was released with the ‘Plus’ suffix. How did it fare compared to its predecessor? Read on to find out…

Line 6 Quality Amp Modeling

The Floor Pod Plus retains all the simplicity of operation that its predecessor enjoyed, it just has many more modelers and effects, including more amps and Line 6’s well-regarded Tone Core range of pedals. It looks much better too coming in a more stylish and sturdier frame. Even the expression pedal appears better built than the original.

But what about all those digitally modeled amps? Well, they’re all good, especially for a modeler in this price range. There isn’t the sonic quality you’ll find on Line 6’s higher specification floorboards, but you can’t complain for what you do get for your money. If you want better realism, then we’re afraid you’re going to have to save your bucks for a higher-end model, such as the XT Live or the HD500.

All the effects performed well, although we thought the expression pedal lacked a little depth when used to control the Wah function. Some guitarists might feel restricted by how few effects you can use at once, however. We could only figure out how to get two effects working at the same time. Three or even four would have added a bit more versatility.

A Great MultiFX Unit at a Great Price

Sure, there’s a big gap between the Floor Pod Plus and the Line 6 XT Live, but there’s also a fair sized divide between the Floor Pod Plus and its predecessor. The Line 6 Floor Pod Plus doesn’t pretend to be the ultimate on-the-floor multiFX floorboard, but it does give you a compact, full range of modelers and FX for a very reasonable price.
